And only a tiny fraction of that – just 16 caloriesv – can be safely held in your blood.
If you go too far over this limit, the sugar becomes toxic.
It very quickly damages your brain, heart, kidneys, and especially, your nerves.
So, whenever your body detects extra sugar, it burns it for fuel as quickly as possible.
And if there’s too much to burn immediately, it gets shuttled into your fat cells, where it turns into piles of fat.

There’s not.

The same hormones that help burn fat, when not properly balanced, can throw you headfirst into the metabolic death spiral.
And when it comes to unlocking dead fat, there are at least 3 critical hormones.
Addressing any one on its own is not enough.
However, when all 3 are balanced and working together, dead fat can finally be released, and weight loss becomes second nature.
Metabolic Killer #1 – The Fat-Storing Doorway.
Fat cells are actually quite simple:
- They can suck in fat and sugar to grow...
- They can kick fat out and shrink smaller...
- But they can’t do both at the same time...
And what controls whether they grow or shrink?
A hormone named insulin.
It’s an anabolic hormone – meaning it helps things grow – and here’s how it works:
Insulin controls the “fat doorways” that allow fat in to or out of the cell.
When insulin is around, the “fat entrance” swings wide open, sucking
in any fat nearby, trapping it inside, and making the fat cell swell larger.
When insulin is gone, the “fat exit” can swing wide open, and previously trapped fat escapes and is shuttled to other tissues to be burned for energy.

Insulin isn’t evil – its fat-storing job is critical, especially right after you eat.
Too much sugar in the blood can cause devastating problems, as you learned before, which is why insulin’s ability to very quickly store that extra sugar as fat is crucial.
However, when insulin hangs around all day – like what happens with most people who are carb-fueled – fat can get in... but it can’t get out!
Which is why insulin that stays constantly elevated is the first metabolic killer.
And why it’s the best known of the 3 metabolic killers.
That’s the reason super low carb diets are often touted as the miracle solution for weight loss: insulin should stay low and the “fat exit” should swing open.
Unfortunately, it’s not that easy.
And that’s because of...
Metabolic Killer #2 – The Stress Jackhammer
This hormone wakes you up in the morning, keeps you alert and helps you focus.
And in controlled doses, it actually tells your body to burn fat.
That’s because it’s a catabolic hormone...
It breaks things down to produce the raw materials your metabolism uses to generate the energy you need to handle normal daily stress.
I’m talking about the stress hormone, cortisol.
However, most of us deal with too MUCH stress...
Which leads to too MUCH cortisol...
Which ironically leads to too MUCH fat (especially around the belly).
Yet, there is an even darker side to cortisol (as if extra belly fat wasn’t enough):
Cortisol acts like a jackhammer, splitting apart anything that it touches.

That’s why highly stressed people look so ragged and act so erratically – they are literally disintegrating from the inside out, as this diagram demonstrates.

Excess cortisol on its own is clearly bad; however, when combined with excess insulin, you’re looking at a metabolic nightmare.
If insulin is elevated when the corti-sol gets to your fat cells, the “fat exit” door is locked shut.
So instead of breaking down the fat inside the cell, cortisol ends up damaging the outside of the cell wall where the insulin receptors are...
Cortisol can then damage these insulin receptors, just like a jackhammer violently splitting apart a sidewalk.vi
When the receptors get damaged, the cell stops reacting to insulin like it should.
So your body makes even MORE insulin, your liver produces MORE fat, and your trapped fat becomes even MORE locked in.
This is a common situation since most people turn to carbs when they are stressed.
And let’s face it...
Life today is stressful. Somehow, all this modern technology has made us busier than ever.
There’s always something to worry about, between work, family and trying to squeeze in a social life... and that long to-do list never seems to get any shorter.
So, you get both high insulin (to handle carbs) and high cortisol (to handle stress).
If you think that sounds bad, there’s a third metabolic killer that when combined with the other two, can accelerate the metabolic death spiral to a dangerous pace:
Metabolic Killer #3 – The Metabolic Brake Pedal
This one is a doozy... and it helps explain why weight loss can sometimes feel like you’re running uphill against a stiff wind.
If you’ve ever dieted and found it harder and harder to lose weight each time, this may be the reason why.
The scientific term for this metabolic killer is leptin resistance.
Leptin tells your brain you’re full by sending the “stop eating” signal.
However, that’s only one part of what leptin does.

Leptin also influences how much thyroid hormone your body produces.
And that’s crucial, because thyroid hormone is your metabolic gas pedal...
It causes your metabolic engine to run hotter and faster to burn more body fat.
That provides more energy for your brain, heart, muscles, lungs and liver.
When your fat cells begin growing (thanks to the first two metabolic killers), your body begins creating extra leptin.

- It cranks up hunger to panic mode, making you eat everything in sight.

You can’t get rid of fat – dead or alive – if you constantly overeat.
There’s no getting around that calorie math. However...
It takes almost superhuman willpower not to eat when your body is always hungry.
And for those rare few who do have superhuman willpower, it can evaporate quickly.
All it takes is one stressful day, and before they even know what happened, their old eating habits return.
So the first step to releasing dead fat is to get your “stop eating” hormone – leptin – back into your brain so your hunger is reduced naturally.

And one compound that comes from a
fruit found deep in the jungles of West
Africa is exceptionally good at that.
It’s called irvingia gabonensis.
Locals have been consuming it safely for centuries.
Yet it’s only recently that western
scientists started paying attention to its
uncanny ability to aid in fat loss... and
they’ve finally discovered why.
Irvingia clears out the toxic CRP that
blocks leptin’s “stop eating” signal from
entering the brain, allowing leptin to fully

A remarkable 10-week study was recently performed on 102 people. Half received 150mg of an irvingia gabonensis extract. The other half got a placebo.

The placebo group ate the caloric equivalent of an extra 95 slices of pizza... 179 bags of potato chips... or 198 bowls of ice cream.
However, that’s not all.
Remember, when it’s working correctly, leptin also signals your thyroid to crank up your metabolic rate, burning more fat throughout the day.
Which is why it should be no surprise that in this study, the irvingia group:
- Shrunk their waistlines by 6 inches...
- Dropped an average of 28 pounds...
- And burned 221% more body fat than the placebo group...

In my own practice, I’ve found irvingia to be just as powerful as these results suggest. (And I’ll show you exactly how I’ve used it, and the real results it produced, in just a moment.)
However, to permanently unlock pockets of dead fat so your metabolism can burn it for energy, we also need to tackle the other two metabolic killers.
Metabolic Shortcut #2:
Soothe the Stress...
Leptin’s ability to conquer out-of-control appetite and hunger is a big win...
However, when it comes to how many calories you eat, there’s one more factor:
Cravings.
There’s a big difference between hunger and cravings. You can be full, yet cravings drive you to keep eating.
You KNOW you shouldn’t be eating that extra potato chip, yet you do anyway. An extremely frustrating – and depressing – experience for anyone.
And what’s the #1 trigger of cravings?
You guessed it – stress!
As you learned before, stress triggers excess levels of cortisol.
In large doses, cortisol acts like that metabolic jackhammer, damaging the insulin receptors on your fat cells, forcing the fat cells to swell even larger.
However, it also causes two nasty changes in your brain that practically force you to eat, even when you aren’t hungry:
- It tones down the self-control center that helps you make healthy choices...
- And it cranks up the addictive center that makes you seek out pleasure.ix

Less self-control and more addictive urges are a very bad combination.
A recent British study confirmed the link between cortisol and “stress eating.”
Researchers found the higher your cortisol levels, the more likely you are to
turn to snack food to deal with daily hassles.x
The antidote to stress eating, of course, is to relax... there’s just one problem:
It can take years to gain control over your body’s stress response through
relaxation techniques like meditation or yoga.
People who master these skills spend hours a day – every day – practicing them.
That’s just not practical for most people living in the modern world.
And it’s even less practical to think you can eliminate stress at home and work.

Luckily, scientists have discovered a powerful herb that can soothe your stress and reduce cortisol without wasting hours at a time.
It’s called rhodiola.
And doctors refer to it as an adaptogen.
As an adaptogen, rhodiola helps you
deal with stressful situations without

Remember, decreased cortisol stops the damaging assault on fat cells, allowing them to heal naturally and start releasing the fat that’s trapped inside.
Which may be why one study found that, compared to the control group, rhodiola more than doubled weight loss.xiii

Dead fat is insulin resistant for a few reasons:

- Stubborn fat can make you insulin resistant from excess leptin...
- And unfortunately, you also become more insulin resistant as you age...
These all act in cahoots to put your fat cells in a constant state of insulin resistance:
- Insulin resistance makes your body produce more insulin...
- More insulin leads to worse insulin resistance...
- Which leads to even more insulin being produced...
And that all leads to constant fat gain...
This is the ugly center of the metabolic death spiral.
And it’s why this condition is so widespread...

It’s a dangerous situation... however, there is a solution.
After years of testing, I’ve discovered you can reverse insulin resistance.

Insulin Controller #1:
The Mysterious “Sugar Blocker”...
Drinking coffee has long been linked to a wide range of health benefits, including improvements to heart, brain and liver function.
Researchers originally thought it was the caffeine that provided these benefits; however, decaf coffee has now been found to deliver similar benefits.
That means something else in both regular and decaf coffee is responsible.

The coffee bean is naturally loaded with hundreds of powerful health-boosting nutrients, so pinpointing the precise ones that deliver those benefits has been hard.
However, researchers recently isolated one compound that caught their attention.
It’s called chlorogenic acid and it packs a powerful sugar-killing punch.
