Tricks to Boost Morning Energy
Writer, editor, and diet and fitness expert Liz Vaccariello shares some tips on how to boost one’s energy in the morning while keeping one’s weight in check.
Based on a recent study, Vaccariello recommends starting the day with a breakfast that is rich in protein, such as hard-boiled eggs and some yogurt to send satiety signals to the brain and body. This will prevent early feelings of hunger that can encourage one to eat more unhealthy snacks.
On the other hand, chronic-fatigue specialist Jacob Teitelbaum, MD advises starting the day with some dark chocolate which provides theobromine, which is similar to caffeine. Chocolate is also a rich source of antioxidants which can lift one’s mood and reduce the risk for heart disease.
Another way to jump-start a day is to take coffee, which has been linked to many health benefits including boosting one’s energy, enhancing the memory, and reducing the risk for various diseases like stroke and cancer. To reduce calorie intake, enjoy coffee with skim milk or take it black.
To wake up the face muscles, try munching on something healthy and crunchy, like an apple for breakfast. Aside from the energy boost it will provide you with a healthy amount of fiber.
Sleep expert Michael Breus, PhD warns that staying up late can increase one‘s likelihood for excess weight gain. People tend to eat more fast food and especially consume more calories late at night compared to people who sleep normally. It is therefore best to sleep and wake up at about the same time every day, preferably at earlier hours.
And to start the body moving and the heart pumping upon rising, Vaccariello recommends making the bed after jumping out of it to avoid any temptation to slip back in.
