There’s a remarkable story I want to tell you. Amid the ashes of the horrific World War II bombing of Hiroshima stood a lush, green tree, unmarred by the blast. In fact, it continued to spring the same healing leaves that had been revered by the Chinese for more than five centuries.1,2 Now that’s resilient! Even more impressive? Today, scientists are learning that this tree, the world’s oldest living species, may hold the answers to Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, and other age-related woes. There’s no doubt about it. For the study, the research team analyzed data from two prior case studies, which involved a total more than 1,500 men with prostate cancer and a similar number of […]

Antioxidant Benefits from Acai Berries

A recently published study in Experimental Gerontology shows that acai berry prolongs the lifespan of fruit flies which are exposed to oxidative stress. Scientists at Emory University School of Medicine led by Alysia Vrailas-Mortimer, a postdoctoral fellow found that a simple sugar diet with acai supplementation could triple the fruit flies’ life spans, from eight to 24 days. Furthermore, they also found that acai also protected the flies against oxidative stress brought about by exposure to hydrogen peroxide or paraquat. Paraquat is a pesticide used to kill weeds and has toxic effects on nerve cells that resemble Parkinson’s disease. Paraquat […]
