A new study published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention states that women who smoke or has a history of smoking have a greater likelihood of developing colon cancer compared to women who never smoke. Furthermore, women smokers are also more likely to develop the disease compared to male smokers. Lead researcher Dr. Inger Gram, a professor in the department of community medicine at the University of Tromso in Norway reports that smoking even ten or fewer cigarettes per day increases women’s risk of colon cancer by 20 percent. Exercise Lowers Risk for Colon Cancer

Obesity increases a person’s risk for a certain type of colorectal cancer, while exercise lowers the risk, according to a new study. Researchers analyzed data of men and women from Health Professionals Study and U.S. Nurses’ Health Study. Peter Campbell, director of the society’s Tumor Repository and […]

Mistletoe Extract Helps Fight Colon Cancer

People think of mistletoe as one of the important symbols of Christmas, but scientists have found that its extract also has the potential to be an alternative treatment for colon cancer. Colon cancer is the second leading cause of death from cancer in the Western world. While mistletoe extract is already being used by colon cancer patients in Europe, patients from other countries like the United States and Australia are not yet benefiting from it because of a lack of scientific testing. Scientists at the University of Adelaide in Australia have recently taken an interest in how mistletoe extract could […]
